I've ofcause learned shitloads of retouch technics within my education. It's basicly to have a Basic knowledge about your way to begin retouch - so you dont screw it up from the first touch and thereby keep all the informations. First of all i get the beginner contrast by making it HDR (high dynamic range). And then a few hours in photoshop where i toddle with every little detail :D .. like adjusting the light alone on hes forehead f.ex. By paying attention to small parts of the pictures adjustment u can get a uniq contrast :) in otherwords :P - i keep twisting the pixels / information to its limits over more than one time. With leves, curves etc etc :) hope that made any sense to you! :D
